You want to be successful. You want to rake in that moolah, break the glass ceiling and shatter the stereotypes. You want nothing but the best for yourself and your family. And you are willing to put in whatever it takes to reach there. But are you taking care of that one thing that’s going to help you achieve those dreams? We’re talking about YOU.
We can’t rave enough about self-care and how essential it is to find balance in your busy lives. They don’t call life a “balancing act” for no reason, do they? Staying in balance is the difference between moving through life and living it to the fullest. It’s when you get through the toughest of days without feeling like a mess (singing “Don’t cha wish your girlfriend was calm like me?”).
Don’t we all wish to experience that kind of calmness? Here are some tips that can help get your life back into balance.
- STOP and disconnect
Is there a better way to start?! Stop… take a deep breath and take a moment to realize and analyze what you are doing, how you are spending your day, and are you doing it all a little too much. Accept the fact that you’ve only got so much time and energy to give. You cannot be perfect in all you do all the time; you cannot be available for everyone every time, and that is entirely OK.
- Find a purpose
Prioritize what means the most to you. And let only those things or people affect you. Schedule your day to align with that purpose and focus on activities that make you feel productive and not exhausted. It’s important to remember that purpose can keep changing depending on your phase of life. Still, it’s also essential to know that you can find a purpose for every stage of your life, one that’s most relevant to where you’re at physically and mentally.
- Prioritize
We can’t turn a blind eye to the fact that a day isn’t just one activity. Several responsibilities, activities and challenges make up our day and night. Instead of spending time fretting and panicking over how much you’ve got to go, spend that time prioritizing items in your “to-do” list. Knowing what your day looks like is one thing, but comprehending how you’re going to spend it will make life so much easier. Oh, and did we mention, “Me” should always top that list, followed by a “Say NO to everything that isn’t adding value to my life (Be brutal).”
- Make time for yourself.
Before you get ready to take on the world, spend some time to take care of yourself. TBH, as much time as you can. Indulge in practicing your idea of self-care and self-love. Unless you’re happy with yourself, you cannot be satisfied with what you do. Love yourself, your body, your existence, your life and find ways to pamper yourself in ways you’d do to a loved one. Follow groups, pages, and communities that inspire and encourage you to do the same.
- Live!
Have fun. Spend time doing things that aren’t work-related or do not churn out a quantitative result. Well, unless you’re counting those serotonin levels. Do nothing at all, if that’s what you want. Let loose and let go. Life isn’t about your 9-5 job. It’s instead everything outside that.
We all know life isn’t a To-Do list that you’ll be able to stick to as planned. There will always be something that brings you off balance. The key is to be cognizant of when that happens and tuning yourself back in control using these steps, again and again, until one day it sticks on as a way of living. You’ve got this!
