Updated: May 9th, 2016: Healser Medical changes name to Popit Medical Technologies and announces more features.

The rise of social media has everyone constantly checking their phones. According to a study by Deloitte, the average American looks at his or her phone 46 times a day! This number is considerably higher when you look at Americans between the ages of 18-24.

They look at their phones 74 times in a single day. Just image yourself, can you go 5 minutes without looking at your phone? You are not alone. A lot of people can’t.

It’s so embedded into our lives that we have to always have our phone. Imagine if you left your phone at home while you were driving to work. Most people would turn around and get their phone.

With technology, the dating landscape has changed with numerous dating websites and application. Tinder, which has more than 1 million paying subscribers, is the king of hookup (“dating”) application. So if you are on Tinder, why not protect yourself with various birth control methods.

Popit

If 15 reminders to take your birth control wasn’t enough to remind you, Popit has your back. A new upcoming application is being designed by 7 professionals in Finland. Considering the advancement of technology and the increased application, why not have one for birth control pills?

The concept is simple, they want to attach a little device to your pill package and it will then monitor every time you take a pill. It updates the application on your phone and keeps track of the pills that you have taken. It even reminds you if you forget to take a pill. The alerts appear on your phone that allows you to stay on track.

The Popit Sense is designed to stick onto birth control pill blister pack like glue (various pill brands are supported – manufacture list will be available on Popit website). According to Popit, the Sense will not come off and will last up to 12 months on a single coin cell battery.

The Popit App will show you history, consumption statistics , and other features to maximize your birth control efficiency. The application must be used along with the device, otherwise, it will not function.

According to the Healser website, the company “uses a proprietary technology to track when you take your pills. It learns from your routines and reminds you if it looks like you will forget a dose. Our beautifully designed app provides insights into your compliance levels and other details.”

Birth Control Pills

The importance of taking prescribed pills

  • Half of the women forget to take a pill on a daily basis
  • 1 out of 100 women gets pregnant each year if the pill is taken on a daily basis
  • 9 out of 100 women gets pregnant each year if the pill is not taken daily basis

Birth control pills are one of the most effective methods of birth control if taken on a daily basis. The rule of thumb is to take the pill consistently at the same time each day.

The application will make it more effective for women to remember to take the pill so they are protected against unwanted pregnancies. Keep in mind that you are still not protected by sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

A condom should be worn in conjunction with birth control pills for protection against HIV/STDs.
